INSIDE MYKITA STUDIO WITH MORITZ KRUEGER
MYKITA introduces its most visually diverse collection yet: MYKITA STUDIO.
Launching with three capsule collections, each exploring an individual visual topic, the eyewear line is a showcase for the high fashion concepts and uncompromising designs from the MYKITA design team. There is STUDIO 1.1 & 1.2 with futuristic references evoking Fritz Lang’s classic film Metropolis. STUDIO 2.1 & 2.2 feature a mirrored split-screen design that deconstructs the classic structure of sunglasses. STUDIO 3.1 & 3.2 is all about bold simple shapes made for displaying the dark, moody custom-made acetates. As the collection arrived to shops this February, we grabbed a moment with MYKITA’s creative director Moritz Krueger to find out more about how MYKITA STUDIO evolved and what the future holds.

What inspired the launch of the new MYKITA STUDIO collection?
MYKITA STUDIO is a release for the ideas and experimental topics that somehow don’t fit into the framework of our main collections. It allows the design studio to run with a central idea concerning material, construction or surface and to pursue it to its consequent, physical manifestation. I also think it is our most sartorial collection to date.

What is the concept behind it?
An essential part is the opportunity to start each new instalment, each new capsule collection, with a clean slate. We want MYKITA STUDIO to be about illustrating a moment in time. An existing collection inevitably comes with preconceptions, certain restraints and commitments, which can hold some ideas back. So MYKITA STUDIO gives a forum, a home to those novel and uncompromising designs that may previously have been abandoned because they didn’t quite fit into the main collections.

How big is the collection and how will it grow?
MYKITA STUDIO is conceived as a design series where each new instalment explores a new visual topic. We launched with three capsule collections in Paris last October 2016. Each collection features two to three models with a different variation on the design theme, as well as three to four different colourways. We are introducing a fourth concept to MYKITA STUDIO later this year. It is based around a playful, modular concept with colour blocking in tone-on-tone pastel shades. A fifth instalment is also already in the works – an optical collection.
MYKITA STUDIO is already available at the MYKITA Shops worldwide, selected opticians, fashion stores and in the MYKITA E-SHOP, mykita.com
