MYKITA + OAMC® AND THE AESTHETICS OF UTILITY

"We both gravitate towards objects that are defined by purpose," says founder Moritz Krueger about the collaboration with Luke Meier.

When MYKITA and OAMC® started working together, the alignment was immediate. Both approach design through function, precision, and daily use. That shared mindset shaped the collaboration from the outset. We take a closer look at the design collaboration between OAMC's Luke Meier and MYKITA founder Moritz Krueger.

MYKITA, founded in Berlin, is known for its engineering-led approach to eyewear, in-house production, and material innovation. OAMC®, led by Luke Meier, operates with a similarly disciplined design language. The label draws from workwear, mid-century references, and technical garments, with a focus on longevity and clarity of form. Pieces are designed to be worn regularly and understood over time. That common ground set the direction for the project.

The collaboration focused on utility as a design principle. Mid-century eyewear and objects with a practical purpose served as key references. Flat lenses, clear geometry, and functional details informed the silhouettes, translated through MYKITA’s materials and construction methods.

The MYLON® rings function as subtle blinders for the flat base 2 curve lenses by ZEISS that also create the distinctively 'boxy' look.

The frames use a hybrid construction, combining a stainless-steel structure with MYLON® inserts. This choice is functional as well as visual. Flat base-two CR-39 lenses by ZEISS require a mounting solution beyond metal, while MYLON® allows for the integration of subtle side shields that reduce reflections. The materials also bring contrast in texture, with matt surfaces that reference industrial tools and equipment.

For MYKITA founder and creative director Moritz Krueger, the focus was on precision and clarity. Each element serves a purpose: the flat lenses define the geometry, the hybrid construction determines the structure, and the side elements improve visual comfort. The challenge lies in making this feel natural and resolved.

The capsule includes two models. RAT is a square navigator with a strong, graphic presence. GRUNT takes a panto shape with a double bridge, introducing a softer outline with a slightly offbeat edge. Together, they reflect two expressions of utility within the same design framework.

Luke Meier explained the decision to collaborate in simple terms: “We have a lot of respect for the process and the product that Moritz and MYKITA make.” For Meier, the collaboration was a chance to see OAMC's design perspective translated through MYKITA’s deep technical know-how – and, as he noted, the outcome landed exactly where it needed to.

Specially developed co-branded packaging completes the utilitarian appeal of the collaboration.

There is a shared background between the two brands. Both started independently, developing their own processes and production methods over time. That experience informs how they work today and shaped the collaboration.

Each frame is handmade at MYKITA HAUS in Berlin using proprietary technologies and materials. ZEISS sun lenses provide clarity, full UV protection, and advanced anti-reflective coatings – eyewear designed with performance and wearability in mind.

The MYKITA | OAMC® collection launches globally in February 2026.
