BERLIN SUMMER GUIDE: DANCE

MYKITA is full of resources and excellent tips on what to do and where to go in the German capital. Selected by the MYKITA team, the Berlin Summer Guide series hopes to help visitors make the most out of the city in the same way a Berliner would. This time up: Where to go dancing.

Clärchens Ballhaus

Open since 1918, the century old ballroom is a famous meeting point for the local dance aficionados. From swing to cha-cha, introduction courses for different dance styles are offered on a daily basis. Even if not a ballroom dance enthusiast, the historic building and its idyllic garden are still worth a visit.

IPSE

A stone's throw from the legendary Club der Visionäre, IPSE is one of the best-kept secrets of Berlin's nightlife. Its festival-like vibe and off the beaten path location makes IPSE's open-air area a great alternative for dancing in the summer. Unlike most Berlin clubs, the parties here start early in the evening, or even in the afternoon.

Loftus Hall

Hidden away in a mini-forest, this 1950s style building is a great late-night destination. The diverse music concept, ranging from house to hip-hop, changes with every party. Because not open every day during the weekend, it pays to have a quick look at the Loftus Hall website to see what’s on.

Prince Charles

Located just around the corner from the MYKITA HAUS, Prince Charles was destined to be popular among the team. The interior is all Kreuzberg glamour and the event calendar has something to suit every taste. Monthly highlights include the popular Burgers & Hip Hop culinary-hybrid and the cozy Engtanz party.

Strandbar Mitte at Monbijou Theater

Museum Island, one of Berlin's most beautiful historic areas, forms the backdrop to this unique spot. The lively bar by the river Spree is equipped with a wooden dancefloor overlooking the Bode Museum. Dance lessons in a diversity of genres from swing to salsa are offered on a regular basis. Enjoying the view, cocktail-in-hand, is a good alternative for those working up the courage to hit the dancefloor.
