SMALL GLASSES FOR SMALL FACES
It’s late summer on a giant Brooklyn rooftop as a fresh-faced bunch of kids and a very photogenic goat play among the lush flowerbeds. The familiar Manhattan skyline is curiously looming in the background. This green urban oasis is the location for the lookbook introducing MYKITA FIRST – the debut eyewear collection for children and teens by MYKITA.
These glasses come in small sizes to suit small faces but still carry the distinctive MYKITA design aesthetic. PANDA, RACOON, KIWI and DODO – the models in this stainless steel collection are named after some of the most individual characters in the animal kingdom. Comprising four optical and three sunglass frames, all the classic eyewear shapes are covered in the range, which includes round, panto, cat-eye, aviator and rectangular models.
The easily adjustable frames are sturdy yet ultimately light, making them the ideal companion for action-packed young lives. Models are sealed with a rubber coating, providing a robust and scratch-resistant surface, and there is also a sophisticated pure silver version. Brightly coloured temple tips on selected glasses add to the fun.
The FIRST Lookbook also marks MYKITA’s first collaboration with illustrator Jordy van den Nieuwendijk. The organic and slightly imperfect style of his work is characterised by bold shapes and lines in vibrant colours, both complementing and providing a striking counterpart to the natural mood and setting of the campaign photography. The Dutch illustrator reinterprets Mark Borthwick’s pictures in his own visual language, creating pairs of pictures for the lookbook where the colour and composition of illustration and photograph mirror one another.
As befits a new collection, the frames from MYKITA FIRST come in an especially designed etui. In a matt dove grey with a flash of powder blue, the durable slim-line cover keeps glasses safe from harm and offers easy accessibility via a magnetic clasp.
