WHAT IS THE RIGHT FRAME FOR ME?

Nanda wears NEELA from the MYKITA ACETATE collection.

Choosing a new pair of glasses is arguably the most important style decision you can make. Worn in prime position and framing the ‘windows to your soul’ there are likely few other accessories with this kind of power to transform your look and express your personality. We want to answer all your questions about face shape and how to find the prescription glasses that best suit you, including frame suggestions for each category from our current collections.

WHAT IS MY FACE SHAPE?
The classic guideline usually starts with defining your face shape, but anyone who has ever peered critically into a mirror trying to determine if their face fits best into a round, square, oval or heart outline will know that human faces generally defy these narrowly defined categories. Our faces are usually a combination of different shapes.

WHAT GLASSES WILL SUIT MY FACE?
As a general rule, finding the right eyewear silhouette for you is about balancing the geometry of the face. So, round lenses can fill out a slim, elongated face, in the same way that a more rectangular shape can lend definition to a more rounded face. A major factor is the overall size of the face, especially the distance between the eyes. For reference you can always check the size guide on the product detail page of individual frames on mykita.com

Let’s go through some of the most common archetypal frame shapes and explore which face shapes are best suited to the category via our MYKITA webshop portraits:

THE AVIATOR
This is a classic unisex shape that always brings an element of cool. You can choose between more square or round models, as well as the classic teardrop style, which suit more square faces. The thing to look out for in aviator glasses is that too much volume in the lower part of the frame can tend to pull features down.

Benjamin wears SPRUCE; Nanda wears GYLFI; Magdalena wears STEEN; Hatim wears SURI; Lani wears ARLO

SPRUCE is a navigator frame combining the MYLON® material with lightweight stainless steel for a high-tech, sophisticated aesthetic. It is worn by Benjamin who tends towards a wide, triangle shaped face.

GYLFI from the LITE collection features an acetate front and stainless steel temples. It is one of our bestsellers with proportions that flatter a range of faces, such as Nanda who tends towards a square face.

STEEN has a similar style to CLAAS but is made for larger features. It is worn well by our model Magdalena who tends towards a heart face.

SURI is a modern take on retro aviator style from the MYKITA ACETATE collection. It is worn by Hatim who tends towards a diamond face.

ARLO offers a contemporary navigator silhouette with subtly geometric rims and a distinctive top bar. These unisex eyeglasses are part of a LITE design series with featuring embellished temples with flowing, elongated temple ends in acetate. The lightweight stainless steel style is worn well by Lani who tends towards a round face.

CLAAS is a true MYKITA design classic, made famous by Sarah Jessica Parker as “Carrie Bradshaw” in the HBO series And Just Like That. It’s a petite stainless steel frame suited to narrow, oval faces.

THE ROUND
Round and oval shapes is a flattering shape for many different types of faces. The interesting thing with round glasses or circle glasses is that the message can be so different depending on the proportions. The oversize models are retro, friendly with a hippie vibe. Smaller models tend to send a more intellectual, futuristic message.

Nanda wears GETZ; David wears EETU; Lani wears KEOMA; Benjamin wears LOTTA; Hatim wears JOJO

GETZ from the DECADES collection is retro round also on the smaller side. It is worn by Nanda who tends towards a square face.

EETU from the LITE collection is a small round with an intellectual style featuring acetate rings fitted inside a stainless steel frame. It is worn well by David who tends towards an oval face, a face shape which suits most styles.

KEOMA from the LITE collection is a perfect round on the larger side with an acetate front and adjustable stainless steel temples. Our model Lani shows that round styles definitely suit round faces when the proportions are right.

LOTTA is a round frame with an accentuated top rim and clear lower rim. It is worn by Benjamin who tends towards a wide, triangle shaped face.

JOJO is a perfect reduced round made from acetate that can appear smaller and more intellectual on a face with larger features, or even slightly oversize on a person with smaller features. It is worn by Hatim who tends towards a diamond face.

THE SQUARE
The rectangular frame is an archetypal shape that suits a variety of faces, depending on the size and proportions. There are countless models each with their own identity created by small differences to the details: for example, angular or rounded corners, double or single bridge or the position of the temples.

David wears RAYMOND; Lani wears VANILLA; Benjamin wears SONU; Nanda wears GARTH; Hatim wears AIDEN

RAYMOND is a super cool browline style combining a stainless steel frame with acetate rings fitted inside the rims. The pronounced corners create the same effect as on cat-eye styles of lifting the face and creating width around the eye area, balancing out square or oval faces. It is worn by David who tends towards an oval face.

VANILLA is a standout style from the LITE collection with a bold, square front and oversize silhouette that adds character to soft features. Experiment with colourways for different effects – transparent acetates or clear glasses can really open the face and eye area. It is worn by Lani who tends towards a round face.

SONU offers a square silhouette with straight top line and a distinctive keyhole bridge on the acetate frame front. The stainless steel temples make the frame highly adjustable. It is beautifully worn by Benjamin who tends towards a wide, triangle shaped face.

GARTH from the NO1 collection is pure dadcore with a slim rectangular silhouette. As Doja Cat showed the world at the MTV VMAs in her inspired Y2K office styling, this is by no means an exclusive style for middle-aged fathers and is a great way to break up an elongated facial shape. It is worn by Nanda who tends towards a square face.

AIDEN is a timeless rectangular style made from stainless steel. It is worn by Hatim who tends towards a diamond face.

THE PANTO
What shape are panto glasses? A panto-shaped frame is a bit round with a flat top; it’s an iconic silhouette from the 20th century defined by a high hinge and a full base, creating a wide (pantoscopic) view. Most importantly, the panto is a universally flattering shape. If you don’t like the style connotation of round frames, then a panto, which has a straighter top line, is a great place to start.

Magdalena wears EDE; Benjamin wears PANA; Hatim wears DORIAN; Lani wears NUKKA; David wears ELLINGTON

EDE is an archetypal panto frame with smaller proportions and very fine framework – it is worn by Magdalena who tends towards a heart face.

PANA is a panto frame featuring an acetate frame front and lightweight stainless steel temples for perfect adjustability. The defined side-pieces on this model give a subtle lift to the silhouette. It is worn by Benjamin who tends towards a wide, triangle shaped face.

DORIAN adds subtle geometric corners to the classic panto shape, giving the style a bit more edge. It is worn by Hatim who tends towards a diamond face.

NUKKA from the LITE collection is one of our bestselling panto frames – an acetate frame front with a straight top line and slight lift in the corners coupled with a generous rounded lens shape. It is worn by Lani who tends towards a round face.

ELLINGTON from the DECADES collection is a stainless steel, nearly round panto with subtle surface engraving. It is worn by David, who tends towards an oval face.

THE CAT EYE
The classic cat eye is a feminine shape, a little eccentric, which tends to suit elongated faces by lifting and broadening the facial features. The shape of the eyebrows is especially important with cat-eye frames. You want the eyebrow to sit slightly above or follow the so-called ‘brow line’, the top of the frame-front.

Lani wears KELSEY; Julia wears MAHA; Nanda wears SESI

KELSEY translates a retro cat eye shape into a signature MYKITA stainless steel construction featuring semi-etched and hand-lacquered surfaces in a two-tone colourway. It is worn by Lani who tends towards a round face.

SESI from the LITE collection is a cat eye with an acetate front and stainless steel temples that suits smaller faces. It’s available in seven different colourways ranging from transparent, lightly tinted, solid and tortoise shades. It is worn by Nanda who tends towards a square face.

MAHA from the MYKITA ACETATE collection is a broader full-acetate model suited to rounder and squarish faces, also available in a range of colours. A lighter or transparent shade is a great way to play with volume without overpowering the features. It is worn by Julia who tends towards a square face.

THE OVERSIZE
It’s fun to play with proportions in eyewear and you don’t necessarily need to be flamboyant to pull off an oversize frame.

Nanda wears NEELA; Benjamin wears HITI; Magdalena wears STINE; Lani wears SILIA

The hexagonally shaped NEELA from MYKITA ACETATE is a bold model yet flatters more face shapes and sizes than you might think, due to the way the lower half follows the natural shape of the face, especially in oval or heart faces. It is worn by Nanda who tends towards a square face.

HITI delivers a generous silhouette with subtle geometry. The slightly hexagonal frame front in acetate paired with lightweight stainless steel temples offers a harmonious presence in the face. It is worn by Benjamin who tends towards a wide, triangle shaped face.

Oversize yet lightweight STINE features hand-lacquered colour accents on the side pieces. It is worn by Magdalena who tends towards a heart face.

SILIA is also a very lightweight stainless steel frame with an oversize silhouette. It is worn by Lani who tends towards a round face.
